Have you ever felt like you had been hit head on by a moving truck? No? Well, that happened to me in the Spring of 2014.

The first shock occurred that April when my father passed away suddenly. The grounding punch came three days later, when, after his funeral, my mother passed away even more unexpectedly. I was pregnant with my second child, my first being only 2 years old, studying for my oral medical board exam, and an ocean away from them. I was shattered!

When a lifechanging event occurs, one only has two real options: crumble in defeat or rise above it. As I stood teetering on the verge of various emotions, I begun to receive swift feedback. Calls and texts poured in from hundreds of people whose lives had been affected by my humanitarian inclined parents. A recurrent cord was struck in these messages: in living their purpose and passions, my mother, a passionate international women’s health advocate, and my father, a trailblazing learned and accomplished chartered accountant had touched many lives by encouraging and celebrating others incessantly through their crafts. I recognized that these were values they had imbued into me over the years. We had always celebrated life events of our family and those around us with glee! My grief transformed into a sense of purpose. I felt called to repurpose skills they had taught me in life and in death and share it with the world. I chose to follow their example; I chose to rise. I became an OBGYN due to an overwhelming curiosity that was ignited when I was going through puberty. I was fortunate to have my mother guide me through that most intriguing journey. As I currently embark on this same journey with my daughters, with the added experience of having guided numerous other young girls and their mothers as well through this journey, I decided to create a resource for mothers and their daughters, who are just like me.

Puberty is the first step in a journey towards a young lady becoming into her own. I believe if every step of the journey is properly prepared for with a factual knowledge base AND celebrated with practical and luxurious accessories, rather than being something whispered about like a mysterious secret, more women will feel comfortable, and find value, in their own bodies.

Hence I present to you, Brown Blossom!
