The Mother/Daughter Puberty Talk

Puberty!!! It is such an exciting and yet simultaneously scary time for mothers and daughters. My oldest daughter is in the early part of this phase now and so I find myself reimagining my personal experience so I can share the highlights with her and buffer the low lights. It also helps that I see my fair share of tweens in my practice, so I have had ample experience with this discussion.

The hormonal and physical changes the body undergoes during puberty are quite remarkable. It is important to understand that your young blossoms may vary in their experiences of puberty. For some, they will transition smoothly and effortlessly. For others however, it can be a time of confusion. The changes they undergo can cause friends/classmates to respond differently to them. If these responses are negative, it can have detrimental long lasting effects on their confidence and self-esteem.

I believe if we can help our daughters by equipping them with knowledge , and celebrating the journey along with them, they will emerge from this phase with a clear -and hopefully, strong -understanding of their bodies. This will help guide their path towards becoming self-assured in their womanhood.
